Defense attorney for Yolanda Saldívar
Profile
Douglas Tinker (1935–2017) was a prominent Corpus Christi attorney who served as the lead defense counsel for Yolanda Saldívar during her 1995 murder trial for killing Selena Quintanilla-Pérez.[1] The trial, held in Houston after a change of venue due to intense media coverage in Corpus Christi, lasted less than three weeks.[2] Tinker argued that the shooting was accidental, claiming Saldívar had intended to use the gun to commit suicide.[1] The jury rejected this defense and convicted Saldívar of first-degree murder on October 23, 1995, sentencing her to life in prison.[2]
