Trayvon's mother, co-founder of Trayvon Martin Foundation
Profile
Sybrina Fulton is the mother of Trayvon Martin, the 17-year-old who was fatally shot by George Zimmerman in Sanford, Florida, on February 26, 2012.[1] In the weeks after her son's death, Fulton became a leading voice in the national movement demanding justice for Trayvon, appearing at rallies, press conferences, and before Congress.[1][2]
Together with Trayvon's father, Tracy Martin, Fulton co-founded the Trayvon Martin Foundation in March 2012, an organization dedicated to providing support to families affected by gun violence and advocating for policy reform.[3]
Fulton has continued her advocacy work beyond the case, running for the Miami-Dade County Commission in 2020 and speaking nationally about racial justice, gun violence prevention, and the rights of crime victims' families.[4] She has been recognized by numerous organizations for her work and remains one of the most prominent voices in the movement against racial profiling in America.
